Shelley Hirsch
Creative Production (Music)
Shelley Hirsch’s workshops form a distinctive part of the Creative Production (Music) MA. An internationally renowned improviser, performer, multimedia artist and teacher, who has worked with many prominent characters in the experimental and improvised music worlds, she brings decades of experience in voice, movement, improvisation, and spontaneous stream of consciousness, text-making into the programme.
Through intensive, embodied work, students are encouraged to explore performance and improvisation as physical, vocal, and immediate acts.
These workshops are deliberately immersive. Students may be asked to move, speak, shout, and sing, often working beyond their usual comfort zones. For some, this builds on existing experience; for others, it may be entirely new. In all cases, the emphasis is on openness, responsiveness, and experimentation.
Shelley’s teaching provides:
- A direct engagement with improvisation and presence
- An provocative engagement with voice and the body in performance
- A step away from mediated, academic or studio-based practices toward live, embodied expression
- These workshops act as a provocation and catalyst, enriching students’ wider creative practice.
