Overview
The Electronic Music Production & Performance BA is a project-based course for musicians who want to compose, produce, perform and publish their own music. You’ll learn how to create full tracks from scratch, design original sounds, record and mix in a studio and perform live using both hardware and software tools. You’ll explore a wide range of genres, techniques and technologies – all while shaping your own unique sound.
The course is designed to support both technical skill-building and personal creative growth. Studying here won’t just get you a certificate. By encouraging you to experiment, reflect and refine your approach – you’ll be prepared to take creative risks and build a rewarding career.
You can study this programme either as a full three-year BA degree or the first year only as a one-year HE Certificate.

Year 3 (BA)
Your final year represents the culmination of your creative and professional development. Here, you’ll bring together everything you’ve learned to refine your artistic vision, produce ambitious original work, and confidently step into the professional world. You’ll lead self-directed projects from concept to completion, collaborate across disciplines, and establish a meaningful presence within the music industry in Berlin and beyond.

– Rowan Edwards aka Gozi, pop artist and EMP alumnus
Genre-agnostic, purposefully experimental
Electronic music is constantly evolving and so should you. We don’t ask you to fit into a style or scene. We care about who you are as an artist, how you think, how you create and where you want to take your sound.
Whether you're drawn to club culture, ambient textures, experimental forms or something entirely your own, our focus is on artistic development, not genre boxes. You'll be encouraged to take risks, break rules and stretch your creative boundaries.
Our workshops are spaces for deep inquiry, helping you explore the why behind your work, not just the how. Through hands-on sessions, you'll connect your tools and techniques with purpose, giving meaning to your creative decisions.
Progression & careers
Graduates from this programme can go on to specialise in film, gaming, advertising, animation and immersive media. Roles include:
- Performing artists, DJs or live electronic musicians.
- Producers, remixers or sound designers.
- Music technologists or audio engineers.
- Freelance creatives, label founders or entrepreneurs.
Others build independent careers, combining performance with teaching, installation or interdisciplinary projects. Berlin’s internationally recognised music ecosystem offers endless opportunities to showcase your work.
A future-proof creative toolkit
Developing your practice means more than technical skill. Alongside technical mastery of DAWs, synthesisers and live rigs, you’ll build soft skills that keep you adaptable and confident, including:
- Creative resilience and self-direction
- Collaboration and cross-disciplinary teamwork
- Critical listening and artistic risk-taking
- Communication and project management
These abilities ensure you can thrive in fast-changing industries shaped by new technologies such as AI and virtual production. Upon graduation you'll have a strong portfolio of work, as well as the mindset to keep evolving.
Admissions
Entry requirements
All applicants will be asked to provide: personal and educational information, documentation of their education experience, a portfolio and a personal introduction (which can be submitted as a written statement of motivation or a video/audio clip). Visit our How To Apply page for more detail.
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Standard entry: graduation from high school at a level which would normally permit entry to university in the country where it was gained. This would be A-Levels in the UK and the Abitur in Germany, for example.

If you do not possess the required formal qualification, but have acquired relevant professional or life experience, please contact our Admissions team.
If neither of the two categories above describe your situation, you'll most likely need to complete a short course to gain access to our 1 and 3-year HE degree courses.
- Language: The language of instruction in all our courses is English and applicants must demonstrate a level equal to IELTS 6 (equivalent to B2 in Germany and other EU countries). You can either submit a language certificate or can take our free 90 min online test.
