What you give...

AND WHAT YOU GET

Tuition fees

We like to be upfront about our fees so you can be sure about the cost of your studies before you start. All our course fees are listed below and there are no hidden extras or administration charges. When you sign up for a course with us, you pay the same price for every year of study; for example a 1-year course will be equal to the annual cost and a 3-year course will be 3x the annual cost. The tuition cost doesn’t include additional things like specific books or gear you need to complete the projects you work on.

When you look at the total cost of completing your qualification with Catalyst including cost of living and accommodation we believe it is one of the best value, high quality options available anywhere. Of course we would say that! Don’t rely on our marketing blurb. Look into the advantages of living in a low-budget cosmopolitan city like Berlin here and decide for yourself.

We offer you two simple ways to pay; you can either make a single payment at the start of the year or make instalment payments throughout the year. For both options there is a once a year, non-refundable enrolment fee that secures your place on the course.

More information

  • Enrolment fee
After you have completed your application, admissions will make a decision about your suitability for the course. If you are accepted we will send you an offer letter. This will ask for a €750 enrolment fee to finalise your acceptance. This fee is due at the start of each year of study and confirms your place on the next year of the course.
  • Single payment
The single payment is the simplest method of paying. One payment, once a year due approximately 4 weeks before you start studying. This is significantly cheaper than instalment payments.
  • Instalment payments
Our instalment payments are designed as an easier way to pay for the course. Instead of paying the full fee upfront, we split the cost of the course over 10 payments. There is a greater risk involved for us with this payment method so that is reflected in the total cost.
  • When to pay
The enrolment fee is due 2 weeks after you receive the offer letter. We request that the single payment be made immediately after receipt of the acceptance Letter - however you have until 3 weeks before the start of the course to submit the payment. The first instalment payment is due by 15th August and these payments will be charged on the same day of the month that you signed up on.
  • How many hours of class?
12 hours of weekly lessons -
We estimate around a 36 hour commitment a week broken down into 12 hours of lessons, alongside supported time on campus, bookable time in our facilities and independent study time. Our timetable is subject to change week by week or semester by semester, so we can't guarantee the possibility of regular shifts.
  • What days of the week is class?
Normally Mon - Fri - Classes will occur Monday to Friday on average about 3 days out of the week. If a class needs to be rescheduled it will be moved to a Saturday. Your particular weekly arrangement depends on which group your are placed into for your course.
How long the classes run depends on the type of class: studio based workshops =up to 4 hours while discussion based workshops = 1 or 2 hours.

We have a Christmas vacation of 3 weeks, an Easter vacation of 2 weeks and a summer vacation of 13 weeks for 1st years and 18 weeks for 2nd/3rd years.

How much time you get in the studios depends on your course. As an extra to your workshop time in studios you will also get individual bookable time to complete your assignments or other projects. The current allocation of bookable time is 3 hours per week for those in the 1st year of their course, 4 hours per week for those in the 2nd year, and 5 hours per week for those in the 3rd year. Bookable time is available in term time only. Because of the large number of studios available it is usually possible for students to get extra bookable time but this is not guaranteed.

You will be assigned a particular group for your course and these will consist of a maximum of 20 students.

In addition to your average of 12 hours of delivered lessons a week, we also feature monthly guest sessions. These present guest speakers from all spectrums of the industry to share their unique experiences and personal insight into the professional (and creative!) world of music production, offering you different ways of looking at your future careers.

We are constantly enhancing and updating our course content and teaching delivery in order to provide you with the best learning experience. This may result in changes to teaching, teaching hours, assessment practice, external accreditation process, staffing or resource and facilities. Rest assured we will always take into account the reasonable expectations of our student community.

Many of our students hold down jobs at the same time as their study. It's up to you to decide how much time you'd like to dedicate vs. how much time you need to work. Your ability to work in Germany also depends on what type of visa you hold - please be sure to consider these legal formalities before planning out your time with us.
