Ilja van Ravels, Screen Acting Graduate

Ilja van Ravels

Ilja van Ravels is a Dutch actor based in Berlin, not too far away from their hometown, Amsterdam. Fluent in Dutch and English, and intermediate German skills. Their passion for acting started at the age twelve, performing in multiple musical-theatre productions throughout middle and high school. Towards the end of high school they started theatre courses at De Toneelmeester in Amsterdam and a course in screen acting at the Film Actors Academy, from 2018 to 2021.

Recently, Ilja graduated with a bachelor's degree in screen acting at Catalyst Berlin. During these three years they have starred in a multitude of short films, both in Germany and The Netherlands, in addition to three theatre productions, one of which a solo theatre show that they are performing at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. On top of that they've written and directed two original short films.
Ilja believes acting requires complete openness–embracing all contradictions within oneself and characters portrayed to achieve truthfulness. To further explore their desire for authentic connection in acting, they are currently training in the Meisner Technique with Sylvia Schwarz following their studies.
