Ashley Willison
Acting
Ash is a performer, theatre maker, and educator. With a multi-cultural and nomadic background she uses performance as a way to collide mediums and explore the unexpected truth of our time in live, unrepeatable encounters. Her artistic journey started growing up in Uganda creating devised physical theatre within her small cohort. She went on to study physical theatre, English, and Film studies earning her BFA at a liberal arts college in the United States. During her time in the USA during this time she expanded her artistic interest becoming an audio-engineer, lyricist, dramaturg, and working with visual mediums in line drawing cake sculpture. She moved to Berlin to pursue a MFA in Theatre and Advanced Devising Practicing, completed in 2021.
She now works on several projects in Berlin spending mornings teaching movement or direction and appearing on stage in youth theatre performances, and evenings for the after-dark strangeness of performance that awakens with the city. For credits visit awillison.com.
Ash’s main axis of creation is working with movement and physical storytelling. Drag, puppets, visual poetry, experimental choreography — her interests in the movement world are constantly evolving. She approaches creativity in all mediums from the one common instrument they all contain: the body. Her work in facilitation and tutoring centers embodied learning with an emphasis on redistribution of knowledge and decolonial awareness within educational spaces. You can find her very often at any kind of movement class, rehearsing a show, or making faces in the mirror.
