Marcio Reolon
Acting
Marcio is a Brazilian director, actor and screenwriter with strong international recognition. Based in Berlin and Brazil, his work has received wide acclaim from festivals, awards and critics around the world. His films engage with universal and contemporary themes through compelling narratives, a refined aesthetic, and a strong focus on actor direction.
In 2015, he released his first feature film, SEASHORE, a melancholic coming-of-age story that premiered at Berlinale Forum. The film was released in several countries and received awards at festivals such as Guadalajara IFF and Rio IFF.
In 2016, he directed the vibrant four-episode TV series THE NEST, about a young runaway soldier searching for his long-missing brother within the queer underground of a reactionary Brazil. The series was released in North America and Europe and was also screened theatrically in Germany upon its release.
In 2018, he released his second feature film HARD PAINT, which premiered at Berlinale Panorama, where it received two major awards: the Teddy Award for Best Film and the CICAE Award for Best Panorama Film. The film explores the relationship between a camboy and his hometown as he faces criminal charges. HARD PAINT became one of the most internationally recognized films of its year, screening at over one hundred festivals and winning more than 35 awards. It was widely praised by international critics, achieving a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and appearing on several Best of the Year and Best of the Decade lists.
In 2025, Reolon premiered his third feature film NIGHT STAGE at the 75th Berlinale, in the Panorama section. A thriller set within nocturnal and performative spaces, the film continues his exploration of identity, desire, and vulnerability, further deepening his interest in bodies under pressure and the performative dimensions of intimacy. The film marks a new stage in his ongoing dialogue with genre and contemporary queer cinema.
In 2019, he directed the music video ME DESTRÓI for Brazilian musician Thiago Pethit, which received very positive feedback from both critics and audiences. In the same year, he was a jury member of the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival. He is currently developing new feature films while expanding his work in television and the international market.
Marcio has been teaching acting at Catalyst since 2022, and occasionally works as an acting coach and casting director.
