Gabriel Francisco Lemos (born 1988 in Brazil, based in Berlin) is a multimedia artist, composer, and educator. His work spans organized sound, technology, and both spoken and written word, utilizing formats like performance, video, printed matter, installation, lectures and multimedia projects. He teaches critical thinking, creative processes, performance and instrument design for the Electronic Music Production & Performance programme, as well as Critical Listening for Creative Audio Production & Sound Engineering course. Lemos has exhibited his work at festivals and events in Brazil, London, Chile, the Netherlands, Germany, Monaco, and Portugal. He currently experiments with neural synthesis in generative sound art applied to hybrid narrative formats. His research centers on the creative possibilities and societal implications of knowledge systems in artistic processes and modes of reflection. He is also a passionate amateur mycologist engaged in educating people about fungi and network thinking within artistic practices.
Gabriel's perspective on teaching is oriented towards intellectual and poetic emancipation, emphasising creative processes as the shared basis for discussion on art and the social circulation of creative, collaborative work. He is most comfortable facilitating the learner’s personal projects and providing feedback during different creative process stages. His approach is to share aesthetic impressions, concepts, and technical aspects to stimulate reflection, autonomy and experimentation.
When not at Catalyst, you can find Gabriel in the forest hunting for mushrooms. His life motto is DUC IN ALTUM.
