Benjamin Zuber

Tutor, Visual Effects, Digital Arts & Animation

Benjamin Zuber’s (*1982) intermedial works are primarily installation-based. Most of his projects are defined by a sculptural core or a central video work but often involve various components of other media. The artist’s practice is driven by his strong interest in constantly integrating new materials and methods of processing into his body of work – trying to emphasize on the non repeatable quality of a first try. Based on this ever-growing artistic repertoire, his conceptual and humorous works seem to constantly revolve around tipping points like the moment when pathos turns into melancholia, staging gives birth to authenticity, humor becomes tragedy.
Until 2012, Zuber studied at the Academies of Fine Art in Nuremberg and Vienna as well as at the HfG Karlsruhe. Since then, he has been based in Berlin. Recent institutional shows include Neues Museum Nuremberg (2023), Neuer Kunstverein Aschaffenburg (2023), Museum Penzberg (2022) and Pinakothek der Moderne Munich (2020) among others. He has received a number of awards for his work, most recently the initial stipend of Akademie der Künste (2021), the Stiftung Kunstfonds Sonderförderprogramm Neustart Kultur (2020) and the Bavarian State Award of the Ministry for Arts and Sciences (2018). In addition to his solo practice, he also works in cooperation with his studiomate Thomas Weinberger as an artist duo.

Benjamin leads the VFX Analysis and Reproduction workshops at Catalyst.
