Access to Higher Education Course

Gain the essential study skills needed for entry to our HE Certificate or BA (Hons) courses

Overview

This course is for aspiring artists, musicians, filmmakers and actors who would love to take an HE Certificate or BA degree at Catalyst but who lack the standard entry requirements.

The course is also suitable for anyone who has been out of education for some time who would benefit from brushing up on their study skills before starting one of our longer programmes.

We believe in the transformational power of education and we will do all we can to reduce barriers and provide access to that transformational power.

How does it work?

In most cases, we suggest that you first enrol on one of our Summer Short Courses in your chosen specialist subject. The Access course is then provided as a free add-on and will run alongside your chosen Summer Short Course.

Utilising task- and project-based learning methodology, the course focuses on essential study skills to ensure that you’re prepared and ready for our longer HE Certificate or degree-level programmes. The course prepares you with engaging reading and writing exercises that will help you research, navigate academic texts, form ideas and arguments and write coherent responses to set questions. A dedicated tutor will support you throughout.

At the end of the course, you’ll be required to submit a written text to demonstrate a suitable level of communication and understanding in order to progress onto our main programmes.
