Everything you need to know about our 4-week summer beginner filmmaking programme.
Summer is calling – louder than ever. Our collective fight against the coronavirus has many of us in lockdown. But, while we can’t go outside, our minds have been in overdrive. Now is the perfect time to introspect, to ruminate on creative ideas and contemplate new trajectories. When it’s all over, we’ll emerge, along with Berlin’s warm sunshine and lush green trees, in an exciting new season of soul.
For aspiring filmmakers, our Summer School could be the first stop on the journey to your career dreams. And never fear: to cover all coronavirus eventualities, we’re offering a full money-back guarantee. Check out our COVID-19 FAQ page here.
In our Ignition beginner course, you can go from zero experience to a fledgling film writer, director, cinematographer or editor. You’ll receive the expert guidance of our industry-renowned tutors. You’ll also have access to dedicated studios, production spaces and more within our sprawling Funkhaus complex – part of the artistic DNA of the city. What’s more, you’ll connect and collaborate with like-minded creatives from all over the world.
So, swap the boardwalk for a storyboard; the deck chair for a director’s chair. Why kick back this summer when you can kick-start?! Find out more below.
Is practical filmmaking experience all that stands between the ideas in your head and the big screen? Are you dying to bring your photography to life in a captivating moving picture? Do you yearn to tell inspiring stories as part of a well-oiled creative team?
Our four-week Ignition filmmaking course is designed for budding writers, directors, cinematographers and editors eager to learn the fundamentals of storytelling, photography, pre-production, working with actors, and post-production. You’ll experience various positions on the film crew, and learn a variety of essential techniques, as you collectively take your own short film from script to screen.
“The main thing the participants will learn is how to work in a film team,” says tutor Simon Obleščak. “It’s impossible to learn filmmaking alone. In my experience, one learns best with others; projects that you dream of can come true.”

Do you wish to join one of our Higher Education Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor programmes, but lack either the practical filmmaking experience or formal education required to apply through standard entry?
