Greta Amend

Tutor, Acting, Creative Production (Film) and Film Production

“Hold on tightly, let’s go lightly,” is her motto. Her life goal: to be friendly, fearless and free. Originally from Düsseldorf, Greta has moved to Berlin’s unique creative beat since she arrived in 1989, the year before the Wall came down.

When it comes to her career, Greta has always sought adventure. She’s worked all over Europe for the past 25 years, acting extensively in theatre productions and directing theatre and film. For the past ten years, she’s also been leading masterclasses on acting and directing. Greta brought this wisdom to Catalyst when she joined us in 2019.

“I teach the core principles of a successful interplay between actors and directors in the casting process, on set, on stage and in rehearsals,” she explains. “I focus mainly on teaching high-quality craftsmanship and artistic skills for both actors and directors, in order to enable them to master the challenges the artist faces nowadays.” Greta is excellent at inspiring her students to develop their art.

What drew her to Catalyst? “The young, modern, pace-setting spirit. Professionality meets playfulness. International flair. The quality of the facilities, tools and classes offered.”

Greta is captivated by life. When she’s not teaching or acting, she’s writing, gardening, singing (while cooking), fine dining, watching plays and films and enjoying nature around Berlin. Her favourite piece of art is Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Her favourite film: Mary Poppins (1964).
