Itotiani Gomez-Cruz

Film tech

If there’s one thing Itotiani knows better than most, it’s how to get the best out of camera and lighting gear. The Mexican has worked as a director, cinematographer, camera assistant and technician for multiple international documentaries, series, shorts and feature films, including those on HBO and Netflix Mexico.

All that experience makes them the perfect fit for our film tech team, where they’ve managed the camera equipment since 2021. They ensure that everything is in top shape for our students to smoothly execute their vision.

When Ito’s not at Catalyst, you can find them working on their independent music and visual projects. Here in Berlin, they work with Infrariot, a queer lighting collective comprised of FLINTA people in who work in film, concert and theatre grip and lighting. You can hire the collective as beleuchters, gaffers, grips and/or DoPs for your next film or show! As a musician, Ito mixes Mexican traditional music, electronic beats and contemporary Latin-American genres.

Some of their musical favourites are the artist Willie Colón and the album Siembra by Rubén Blades. What brings Ito the most satisfaction in life? A good ceviche with friends on a sunny summer day.
